I like camping probably more than most folks, but this guy has taken the adventure to a whole new level.  I find this story very intriguing.  Christopher Knight disappeared into the wilderness in central Maine 27 years ago, but now the man known as the North Pond Hermit has been arrested on suspicion of burglary. The 47 year old Knight is quite an exceptional survivalist. 47 years ago he walked out of society and began living in a well hidden camp in the woods. He apparently lived mostly on stuff he stole from the campsites around the North Pond area of central Maine. Thus he was dubbed the “Hermit of North Pond” Maine State Trooper Diane Perkins-Vance told the Kennebec Journal that "for the last 15 years has been picking his way through dozens of the 300 or so camps around North Pond. It's been a myth, or legend, that a hermit was responsible".

The 47-year-old hermit now awaits his future at the Kennebec County Jail, where he is being held in lieu of $5,000 cash bail on charges of burglary and theft.  He claims he hadn't had a conversation with another human being since the mid-1990s, when he encountered someone on a trail.

How long do you think you could last in the wilderness without human contact and no smart phone?
