News flash ladies, most men hate to talk on the phone, they prefer to send text messages. Many guys will use a text as an icebreaker to test the waters before even thinking about picking up the phone to make a call. Therefore, flirtexting has become the new first step to dating and it looks like it's here to stay!

If you’re approaching 50's doorstep like me, the definition of "Flirtexting" is: the marriage of two words Flirt and Texting. Flirting in a text messaging with the intention "hooking up."

There's only one problem, well, honestly there's more than just one problem with flirtexting as far as I'm concerned, but for now we'll focus on this problem. If you receive a flirtext from a man and you don't know how to reply, you'll get stuck in the text zone and could very well end up with a purely textual relationship. You know the kind of relationship where all you ever do is fire texts back and forth to each other. Oh joy!

Communicating via text definitely has its pros and cons. I'm told there's an art to texting, (One I'm sure I'll never master.)  But according to Debra Goldstein and Olivia Baniuszewicz, the authors of Flirtexting: How to Text Your Way to His Heart, a "great text draws attraction and more interest towards you."

To send a great flirtext you must have a strategy. You want to make sure you craft the best possible text, letting the would be recipient know exactly how you feel and what your objective is. Make sure your text message meets those requirements before hitting send.

As strange as it may seem, these days first impressions are no longer made via first dates, but via first texts.

Can I please see a show of hands on who wants to go back to doing things the old-fashion way? Give our thumbs a rest, pick up the phone and make a call. What a novel idea!
