I have to admit, I'm one of those glued to the television every February watching the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.  I can't really put a finger on why I'm so drawn to the two-day event, but I am.  And I'm apparently not alone.  I saw the ratings for the first night of coverage and the numbers were huge.

Maybe it's because over the years, we've always had a dog in the family - a Yellow Lab, a German Short Hair, a Bichon Frise, and currently a Cairn Terrier.  Even while growing up on the farm we always had a dog around.  Dad was always partial to Border Collies.  There was that one time though we had a German Shepherd only because the neighbor was moving to town.

I don't know why, but to me watching the Westminster with a 'four legged friend' is one of the coolest things ever.  I've even found myself looking over to Maddy (our current Cairn Terrier) and saying out loud, "Why can't you do that?" - and then she looks at me with those big blue eyes and I melt.

In fact, there's a part of me that seriously believes that every single dog we've ever owned could easily win the Westminster Dog Show - okay, maybe if I was the only one judging.  But there's just something about the annual show that draws a dog and its owner closer together

On that note, gotta go.  I need to stop by the store and stock up for tonight's 'Best of Show' competition - pretzels for me and a rawhide for Maddy.
