In theory, there's nothing wrong with rebooting the ‘Hitman’ franchise (a popular video game series that spawned only one 2007 film). The Timothy Olyphant version was nothing particularly interesting or exciting, so the chance to try again is something that we can't fault Fox for. But, when you reboot a movie and it still looks as stale and by-the-books as the new ‘Hitman: Agent 47’, then what was the point in the first place?

This new version stars Rupert Friend (‘Homeland’) as the new Agent 47 and Zachary Quinto as the dude tasked with trying to stop him from killing a bunch of people. Hannah Ware plays the hot girl who “holds the secret” to something really important. It all looks and sounds exactly like every other boring ruthless assassin movie, right down to the crunchy guitar soundtrack. (Also, if you're going to use Jimi Hendrix’s “Voodoo Child” at least use the original version, not some bro-rock cover.)

The film marks the feature debut of Aleksander Bach, who has directed a bunch of pretty-looking commercials you may have seen. Unfortunately, that's all that this trailer really is; some glossy looking scenes that are trying to sell you something you probably shouldn't buy.

‘Hitman: Agent 47’ centers on an elite assassin who was genetically engineered from conception to be the perfect killing machine, and is known only by the last two digits on the barcode tattooed on the back of his neck. He is the culmination of decades of research and forty-six earlier Agent clones -- endowing him with unprecedented strength, speed, stamina and intelligence. His latest target is a mega-corporation that plans to unlock the secret of Agent 47's past to create an army of killers whose powers surpass even his own. Teaming up with a young woman who may hold the secret to overcoming their powerful and clandestine enemies, 47 confronts stunning revelations about his own origins and squares off in an epic battle with his deadliest foe.

‘Hitman: Agent 47’ opens in theaters on August 28.
