Hockey Coach Trips Kids Gets Jail Time [VIDEO]

I coached golf for many years for Hills-Beaver Creek High School.  I will say that have witnessed some poor sportsmanship from opposing team coaches, but never anything like this.

A pee wee hockey coach from Vancouver got himself 15 days in jail for tripping a player during a postgame handshake. The 48 year old coach, Martin Tremblay, swept out the leg of an opposing team player while the teams were lined up on the ice and going through the post game hand shakes. Two players fell. A 10-year-old and a 13-year-old boy. The cheap shot was caught on video.

The scene turned ugly as fans began throwing water bottles onto the ice at Tremblay, which sparked the 48-year-old to start throwing up the middle finger to spectators in the stands as he left the ice.

Tremblay pleaded guilty to one count of assault in November. If you are playing hockey tripping will usually get you a couple of minutes in the penelty box. Youth hockey coach Martin Tremblay was sentenced to 15 days in jail on Wednesday. But that wasn’t all. His lawyer said that Tremblay was paying a heavy price from the June incident, and had lost his job and his wife left him since the episode.

What do you think? Was the punishment enough?
