There's a new survey out pertaining to 'women of a certain age' and what they can expect as they approach menopause.  Ladies - despite what your mother may have told you - hot flashes last a lot longer than two or three years.

According to a study done by researchers writing in the Journal of the American Medical Association, the average woman can expect to endure hot flashes for at least seven years; some have been know to suffer from them for up to 16 years.

Researchers also found that the earlier a woman starts the longer the hot flashes usually linger.  And, unfortunately, most women fall into the unlucky 'early bird category.'  The study also found women who are less educated and have more stress and anxiety in their lives tend to have longer lasting symptoms.

If it makes you feel any better, the University of Delaware did a large scale study a couple of years back on the subject and found that something as simple as consuming two daily servings of soy can help alleviate symptoms.

Sorry for the depressing news ladies, but as a a good Facebook friend of mine says, "Thanks goodness for Maxine and her humor!"
