Well, this shouldn't come as much of a surprise to anyone. Despite the bad taste left in viewers' mouths by the 'How I Met Your Mother' series finale "Last Forever," spinoff series 'How I Met Your Dad' is almost guaranteed to carry on the torch this fall with a series order at CBS. Who's ready to have Greta Gerwig drag things out for another nine years?

Initially Variety broke the story that it was officially picked up (no surprise considering the overwhelming likelihood of a pickup), but both CBS and 20th Century Fox surprisingly say that 'How I Met Your Dad' has not formally been given a series order. Plot twist! That said, The Hollywood Reporter quoted sources saying it was a done deal.

That noted, here's what we know about the show. In addition to Gerwig's role as the "female Peter Pan" Sally, "kindred spirit" series 'How I Met Your Dad' features Andrew Santino as Sally’s gay brother Danny, Drew Tarver’s as his husband Todd, ‘Masters of Sex‘ vet Nicholas D’Agosto as potential love interest Frank, Tiya Sircar as Sally’s BFF Juliet, 'Workaholics' star Anders Holm as Sally's separated husband Gavin, and Meg Ryan as the voice of narrating Future Sally.

Expectedly, the new iteration of the 'Mother' franchise will see Gerwig's character recounting to her children the (long-winded) tale of how she met their father, one notable twist being that the pilot sees Sally separated from her then-husband. Additionally, ‘Up All Night’ creator Emily Spivey will head up the show creatively with ‘HIMYM’ producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, while Gerwig takes on writing and producing duties.

Well, what do you think? Will 'How I Met Your Dad' wash away some of the ill will from the 'HIMYM' finale? What would you like to see the franchise to differently this time around, with a female presence at the helm?
