I have determined there are basically two types of people in the world - those who need coffee to get their morning started and those who need a soda (or pop). For me, it's a big cup of coffee straight up black - preferably dark roast.

Even growing up I was never a big fan of soda/pop. Maybe it's because I grew up on the farm and that was one of those rare luxuries that mom would only buy on certain occasions. Plus, it's way too sweet for my liking.

I have a lot of friends though who rely on that morning can or bottle of pop to get their day started. It seems like most of the people I know lean towards Mt Dew - regular, not diet. A couple of my friends drink Diet Pepsi.

For those of you who choose to start your day with a soda/pop, have you ever taken a look to see how much sugar is in each one of those drinks? It's A LOT!!! As expected Mt Dew has the most - 3.83 grams per ounce (one cube of sugar equals 2.3 grams).

Just for comparison, the World Health Organization recommends a maximum of 25 grams of sugar per day for the average person. The US Food and Drug Administration is a little more lenient - recommending no more than 50 grams of sugar per day.

If you would like to check out your drink-of-choice to see how much sugar you're consuming each day, Business Insider has a graph on its website. I've included a link.
