Evidently there is a real skill that goes along with being able to sleep at work at not getting caught. Not that I would know, mind you. I would NEVER condone such behavior on the job, as far as you know.

But let's be honest, we've all had one, or two, or forty-eight of those types of days before where it's damn tough to keep from nodding off while on the clock.

Of course getting caught sleeping on the job is one of the easiest ways to look like an incompetent, lazy, boob! It's also one of the easiest ways to get the home game from the place you work and some lovely parting gifts too!

So in an effort not to get busted catching a couple of zzzz's between 9 and 5, here is what a former H.R. director recommends you do.

Be advised, I said former H.R. director. There is probably a good reason why this person is no longer employed. You know, like maybe getting caught sleeping at work or something stupid like that.

With that said, this person has three risky recommendations for you:

  • Lie down under your desk. Should someone find you, pretend you we're having computer problems, and had to plug something back in.
  • Lean on one hand, and put something in front of you, to make it appear as if you're reading. The secret is to make sure you're not facing anyone who can tell your eyes are closed.
  • Make it look like you're reaching down to grab something off the floor. Lean forward so you're face-down on your desk, while letting one arm hang off, then strategically place a piece of paper on the floor right below your hand, so it looks like you're reaching for it.

It sure sounds like a lot of work just to catch a quick cat nap, you know it?

My advice if you absolutely have to sleep, befriend the company coffee pot. Or choke back a couple of those 5-hour energy drinks throughout the day.

Sure, you might appear to be as hopped up as Kramer from Seinfeld on Caffe Latte's the rest of the day, but at least you'll still have a job. You might also be asked to pee in a cup if you make a habit of it.
