Controversy, Confusion Surround Dramatic Finish at Huset’s Speedway on Sunday
Huset’s Speedway Sunday night June 2nd provided a finish that will be talked about for a while and we’ve got the video to share with you here.
Two rivals battled up front, and one of them with a surprise pass on the last lap. Howver, a caution flag that came out right at the checkered flag added a bit of controversy to the finish.
Terry McCarl, who took the lead from Lynton Jeffrey early in the race on lap 5, led up to the final lap. Then Mark Dobmeier went low and shot around McCarl for the win.
To add to the excitement, a caution flag was waved with the checkered for the slowing #25 car of Dylan Peterson on the outside of the front stretch.
Still, the race was called a finish and the crowd largely cheered for Mark Dobmeier’s win.
The 360 sprint feature was also equally dramatic. Robbie Wolfgang (#1b) made a last lap pass of Tommy Barber’s car (#75) for the win.
The event also took it’s toll on some machinery with two cars going over in the 360-A feature and one in the 360-B. Luckily there were no injuries to the drivers.
In the street stocks, Jesse Akkerman came back from a blown motor earlier in the week on Monday to visit victory lane. Plus, the night featured back-to-back first time winners in a couple other classes.
Miah Christensen came from the number five starting spot to win the B mods. And Aaron Van Voorst (#77A) won the hobby stock feature after the top five cars battled in a close pack all the way.
