For one day only, Arby's offered a Venison sandwich. Being a deer hunter and DIY butcher and amateur cook of venison I wanted to had to try it out.

Since actual wild game is illegal to sell commercially, and has been since 1900, this venison is farm raised, like beef or chicken.

This limited time sandwich features a thick-cut venison steak marinated in garlic, salt, and pepper and is cooked for three hours to juicy perfection. It’s topped with crispy onions and a cabernet steak sauce infused with juniper berries. Served on a toasted star top bun.​​

So how did it taste? It was okay. It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad. I would say it barely had a hint of venison flavor. Being farm raised it would obviously taste vastly different that the venison in my freezer. It was very tender. It looked to be medium to medium well in cooking time.

I think the steak sauce was over doing it. That should have been an option. Each bite was mostly the flavor of the sauce. I did tear off a chunk and ate it by itself. It tasted like meat, but not like anything I'd ever tasted, if that makes any sense.

Will I spend $7 for another one next year? Probably not, though I would not discourage you from trying it. I'm glad I did. It was different and I'm glad Arby's offered it.

This sandwich could not even dream of holding the jock strap of the grilled whole loin I made this summer, pictured below.
