So my wife and I attended a concert over the weekend. It was Up With People, and it was fabulous, by the way. Only problem is - some of the song lyrics didn't rhyme.

Maybe it's an age thing, but I prefer songs where the lyrics rhyme. In my book, if they don't rhyme, it's rap - and I don't like rap! (This is where I turn into grumpy old man).

The theme of the show was "Up With People, the Journey." The show was based on the fact that Up With People is celebrating its 50th anniversary, which is pretty cool.

In fact, I'm so old, I remember when Up With People was always the halftime show at the NFL's Super Bowl. That was before they starting bring in all the big name acts.

The show started out by taking the audience back to 1965, when the group got its start. They entertained us with songs from the 60's - songs where the lyrics rhymed.

Then came the 70's - again, rhyming lyrics for the most part. Then they moved onto the 80's, 90's and present day. That's when grumpy old man started to surface.

About a half dozen of the songs were original Up With People songs, written specifically for the group. It was those particular songs where the lyrics sometimes didn't rhyme.

They were cool songs; had a great message; but the words didn't rhyme. And I can't go out and make a difference in the world if the words don't rhyme - that's just me.

And don't try to convince me that songs, like poems, don't need to rhyme - WRONG! In order for my brain to comprehend the message - IT MUST RHYME!

About a third of the way into the show, it became more of a game to me than a concert. They would display the words to the song up on the big screen on the back of the stage.

That's where I would then try to guess the next "last word in the lyric" to see if it rhymed with the preceding line - and usually it did not. GRRR!!!

The fact I was becoming more and more annoyed was apparently obvious to my wife. When we got home she said, "I'm guessing you didn't like the show as well as I did."

So, closed to circuit to Sir Paul McCartney, when you visit Sioux Falls May 2nd, please make your words rhyme or I might have to say something - I JUST MIGHT!!!
