Adam Dorzok of Sioux Falls was at one time a drug lord who was in the grips of a cocaine addiction.

“A drug lord has what I believe is ultimate power. You have money that creates revenue. You have something in demand that people want. You ultimately have control which leads to a big ego and a prideful mind set. “

So, what did it take to become a drug lord?

“It really didn’t take much! Aside from having the right amount of money, I had to know the right people. I also had to take risks.”

Fueled by the success of his drug deals, Adam was able to keep a steady supply of cocaine that fed his addiction.

“In the beginning, I didn’t think I was hooked on cocaine. The first hit kind of had me. I would do large amounts of it on a daily basis. It didn’t have a hold on me to the point of pawning everything I owned and just knowing the right people until about 2004 through 2005.”

And that’s when a country song was about to change Adam’s life!

“Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus Take the Wheel” was on the radio. I was lying on my townhouse floor in Nashville, Tennessee with my crack pipe in one hand and the phone in my other hand talking to my mom---getting ready to lie to her for more money.”

Adam was about to hit rock bottom!

“I had spent everything from the drug sales on partying. When I heard “Jesus Take The Wheel,” I was about to con my mom right when the song’s chorus kicked in. Something told me I was going to die if I didn’t quit selling drugs and using cocaine. It was a simple cry of help! Just Jesus take the wheel---I can’t do this anymore! My mom moved me up to South Dakota one week after the phone call and I’ve been clean ever since.”

Since relocating to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Adam began gradually began his walk with Jesus!

“It’s God! His grace pulled me from the life I was living! It’s nothing that I did. At the time, I didn’t have a relationship with God. I knew of Him. I believed in Him. But, I lived as if He didn’t exist.”

And that’s yesterday and yesterday’s gone!

“My walk with Jesus began officially on February 19th, 2011. That is the day I gave my life to Christ. My life hasn’t been the same since. I actually got sentenced to jail three days after that for my third DUI in Colorado. That’s when I picked up the Bible for the first time. I always heard people say that the Bible is living, breathing and can transform you. I thought that was a lot of hoopla until I read it! It instantly transformed me!”

But, it didn’t happen overnight!

“Although the transformation took place, and after 22 months of sobriety, I walked away from God thinking I could do it on my own. I got my 4th DUI which led me to prison for the year 2013. That’s the biggest blessing I could have asked for. I found my purpose and my discipleship began. God is s a God of many chances.

Now that he is clean from drugs and booze, Adam offers this message of hope!

“The message I can share is this: the biggest lie I ever believed is God didn’t love me. God loves you right where you are. But, He loves you enough to not to leave you that way.”

No doubt about it! Adam definitely loves life!

“My life is wonderful. God has taken a mess and turned it into a message. I am now affiliated with Celebrate Recovery---a program that is biblically based. I like scripture because it is God’s words. I have come to know God’s word never comes back void. If we can put our faith in the life of Jesus and in His teachings, we set ourselves up for a win-win situation. As scripture tells us---he who has Him on his side is afraid of no one or anything. I think can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.”
