I hope you have a chance to sneak out and take in the beautiful Autumn colors before they're gone.  With our nice warm days and cool overnights, the trees are at their peak.  And, boy, are they spectacular this year.

We've been lucky so far because there hasn't been a lot of wind (which is kind of unusual for this part of the country), so the leaves have been holding tight onto the branches.

Even if its only during your lunch hour, get out and take it all in.  It really makes you appreciate the part of the world that we live in - no smog, no haze, just beautiful blue skies and unbelievable color.  God sure did hit a home run when he decided to give leaves brilliant color in the fall.

One benefit about riding motorcycle is not only do you get to take in the sights, but you also get to experience all the smells. - some good, some not so good.  I have to admit though, even the "not so nice" scents bring back some wonderful memories of growing up on a farm.

After passing a livestock trailer (and wrinkling up my nose) it got me thinking about all the smells I miss out on this time of the year by living in town.

For example:  The smell of harvest.  It's hard to describe, but it you've ever smelled it, you know what I'm talking about.  That smell of dry husks and freshly combined corn.  It's similar to Spring when farmers are out working in their fields - the smell of freshly tilled dirt.  It's hard to describe, but it's got a smell all its own.

The smell of baled straw also brings back a lot of memories for me.  It makes me think of putting down fresh bedding in all the pig barns before that first big snowstorm.

How about this one - freshly mowed alfalfa.  Is there anything better?  I still say if the folks at Yankee Candles were to come up with an alfalfa scented candle, it would be a huge hit (well, at least in this part of the country).

I know you're busy, we're all busy, but please, make the time to get out of the house.  Call a family meeting and announce to everyone you're all going for a walk.  Sometimes it nice (and I even think therapeutic) to disconnect from everything for awhile.  Sometimes, that's all it takes to "recharge the batteries" if you will.

Plus, think of all the special family memories you'll make.  And when it comes right down to it - that's all we have...the memories.

Thank God for the memories!  Love you Aaron!
