A robot created by two researchers in Canada is on a journey to hitchhike across the United States. The robot, which goes by the name of HitchBOT, has already caught rides across Canada and Europe, and is now relying on the kindness of strangers here in the U.S.

HitchBOT began its journey in Salem, Massachusetts, with the goal of eventually reaching San Francisco. Along the way, researchers are hoping HitchBOT will be able to "catch a ride" to New York's Times Square, Mount Rushmore and the Grand Canyon.

So obviously with Mount Rushmore on the list, should you ever come across a robot along Interstate 90 - no, you're not seeing things. It's probably just HitchBOT looking to catch a ride to see the four faces.
