Some bridge decks will soon get a fresh coat of protection. One near Sioux Falls will directly affect interstate traffic the other will be indirectly.

The South Dakota Department of Transportation says in a press release that crews will be doing scheduled maintenance on the following Interstate bridges in Sioux Falls on Monday and Tuesday, July 20 and 21.

On Monday the work will involve the Benson Road bridge over I-229. Thus construction will take place over the top of the I-229 driving lanes, but caution is advised for the crews working on the project.

Twenty-four hours later, I-29 bridges over the BNSF Railroad north of the I-29/I-90 interchange get their just desserts. Work is expected to take place during the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and includes applying a sealant to the bridge deck surface.

Traffic will be controlled with lane closures and the work is subject to weather. Motorists are advised to remain alert for equipment and workers within the work zone and be prepared for suddenly slowing and merging traffic.
