It's a first.  Not only for South Dakota State University, but for the state of South Dakota.  Students at SDSU have formed the state's first collegiate chapter of Pheasants Forever.

The SDSU Pheasants Forever chapter comes on the heels of the national conservation organization opening its first office in South Dakota, which is also located at SDSU.

One main purpose of the SDSU Pheasants Forever chapter is to help bring awareness of the importance of resource conservation.  The collegiate chapter also has plans to work with younger students in the community.

Officials at Pheasants Forever say that this is an important time for the chapter to have been formed because South Dakota has seen a growing amount of grassland being changed over to farmland.  Because of that, pheasant numbers decreased.
