Heritage Days in Rock Rapids, Iowa takes on a bit of Hollywood flare this year. Jerry Mathers from the TV show "Leave it to Beaver" is this year's Parade Marshall.

Mathers, who's now 69, returns to Rock Rapids for the first time in over 60 years. His family used to live there but moved when he was just two years old.

He was actually born in Sioux City in 1948, spent the first two years of his life in Rock Rapids where his dad was a teacher and coach, before moving to California in 1949.

It was at the age of nine when he landed the title role in the TV show "Leave it to Beaver" which ran for six seasons. It can still be seen in syndication today.

These days Mathers spends most of his time touring the country talking about living with and dealing with diabetes.

While in Rock Rapids Mathers plans to attend the River Valley Players musical revue at Central Lyon High School Friday night and serve as Parade Marshall Saturday morning.

While in the area, he and his wife also plan on visiting some of the area's nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

FYI Heritage Days runs from Thursday June 15 through Sunday June 18. Here's a link to the schedule of events.
