KDLT-TV will “Light It Up Blue” on Thursday, April 2, 2015 in recognition of World Autism Awareness Day. Light It Up Blue is a world-wide initiative to raise awareness about autism and its effect on individuals and their families.

KDLT joins thousands of other businesses, communities and homes around the world in the Light It Up Blue Campaign. KDLT will light up the three large satellite dishes adjacent to their Westport Avenue studio, which will be visible from 41st Street.

Autism is a general term used to describe a group of developmental brain disorders that affect a child’s communication and social interaction, with different degrees of severity. Autism Spectrum Disorder occurs in all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups and is almost five times more common among boys than among girls.

It's estimated that one in 68 children in the United States are identified as falling somewhere on the autism spectrum. While there is no cure for autism, early detection and treatment can make a difference in the symptoms the children with this disorder face.
