In light of the hot weather on Friday, Amanda Dougherty of Mini-Critters in Sioux Falls offers life saving tips for your pets.

"If people have pets, they want to be very careful like riding in cars. You don't want to run errands while the pet is inside. The car gets really hot even if you leave the windows down. Make sure you get them back home with the air conditioner on and keep them inside."

Dougherty says it's also important to provide plenty of water for your pets.

"Don't put any ice cubes in the water. That's not good for the dog. Make sure they have enough water."

Dougherty says during these hot days limit your pet's exercise to early morning or evening hours.
