Let me guess, you just finished raking over the weekend and now you have a bazillion leaf bags out in front of the house and you're wondering how to get rid of them?

Lucky for you there are two leaf drop off sites in the Sioux Empire. One is located on East Chambers the other on North Lyon Boulevard next to the fairgrounds.

Area residents are encouraged to take their leaves and branches to these sites in an effort to help keep the city clean and looking good this fall.

According to Dustin Hansen, the Landfill Superintendent, another benefit of taking your leaves to the various drop off sites is they'll be free to residents again this spring to take as compost.

Hansen said, "Once the leaf sites are closed, we start hauling them out to the landfill and from there they'll get processed into compost. Once then compost is complete and screened, we offer that free to the residents to the five county area."

Remember, branches must be placed in a pile separate from leaves. Leaves must be removed from plastic bags. All loads must be tarped or in an enclosed vehicle. Plastic bags, large trees, stumps, rubble, and household garbage are not accepted.

The leaf and debris drop off sites will run through November 29th and be closed on Thanksgiving Day. There is a $3.00 drop off charge per vehicle.
