Les Miserables? Really? Really!
I've been on earth for a little over 50 years. Well, alright. 51. I've always had a soft spot for musicals. I don't know if I can go as far as 'Glee,' but I think I'm a sucker for a good musical.
I cut my movie teeth on popcorn and musicals. 'My Fair Lady'? Yep. 'Seven Brides for Seven Brothers'? I do. 'Oklahoma'? Yes sir. 'Jesus Christ Superstar'? Amen. 'Fiddler on the Roof'? Well part of me has always thought that "I was born, under a wandering star."
I guess that secretly, I like musicals. My mom carted us off to more than one musical while I was growing up. That's why, when my son (who is home from college on Christmas break) said, and I quote,
I ain't gonna lie. Since I took that art class in school last semester, I think I want to see Les Miserables. I mean it looks kind of good. I'm not gonna lie. I took note.
I hadn't really thought of it. How do you take a book written by Victor Hugo in the 19th century and translate to 2012? Then I saw the trailer. Wow!
All star cast. Yes! The singing? I was talking with morning co-host Brian Bjerke about it and he said "the neat part about it is the singing isn't 'tracked in' like they do with most singing performances. In short, they sang it and filmed at the same time."
I'm doing a little research on the story-line which in itself is worth a Google search. 'Les Miserables'? Really? Really!
Opens Christmas Day!
