Payday and car title places are like the loan sharks of old, charging whatever they can get by with, and adding charges upon charges upon charges, making the person even more broke than when they started. What they do and they way they do it is legal. But should it be?

I am sure everybody who works in these places have people who love them, parents, spouses, children. However, the rates of interest, fees, and other charges, are so outrageous one has to wonder about the ethics and morals of the owners and employees.

Now, Steve Hildebrand, who owns Josiah's Coffee House in Sioux Falls and Rep. Steve Hickey are circulating petitions to rein in payday and car title loan businesses. And as a result the sharks have begun to circle.

Hildebrand recently told KDLT News that large groups of transients and homeless have begun flooding his establishment and he thinks they are being sent by the payday loan industry.

According to the report, one those individuals that showed up at Josiah's Coffee House was identified as Floyd Picket, a "business associate" of Rod Aycox, the CEO of North American Title Loans.

Expect more circling, listen for the "Jaws" theme, around anybody who speaks out in favor of Hildebrand's and Hickey's efforts. Also expect things to go from circling to more  direct and mean spirited attacks.

Like the loan sharks associated with the mob, these folks will doing anything to be able to continue taking advantage of financially stressed people.
