One of the biggest shopping centers in the nation is about to get even bigger.

The Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota is going to see $2.5 billion in expansion over the next ten years.

Expansion plans consist of a multi-level complex that will connect to the existing Mall on all four levels.

Phase II is expected to attract additional upscale customers with an estimated annual household income of more than $100,000, as well as families with older children.

Phase II anticipates drawing up to an additional 20 million visitors annually – nearly 60 percent from outside 150 miles – almost doubling the state's economic impact to an estimated $4.3 billion.

The expansion will add up to 8,000 additional parking spaces.

The expansion begins this fall, with a $250 million addition that will expand the mall to the north.

When the entire project is done - with the next decade - the mall will nearly double in size, with as many as 300 new retailers along with new attractions like a full-sized skating rink and water park.
