Police in Sioux Falls say a man who described himself as a transient was arrested on Thursday after he allegedly threw his cellphone at an officer during a foot pursuit.

Lieutenant Loren McManus says police were called around 2:45pm to the 1300 block of North Williams Avenue, where the man was reportedly assaulting a woman in the street.

McManus says when officers arrived, they pursued the suspect on foot and when he was cornered in a back yard, he threw his cell phone at an officer, striking him in the hand.

The officer was able to control the suspect and arrest him.

McManus says 21-year-old Zachary Aaron Krumm was charged with domestic aggravated assault, simple assault on law enforcement and interruption of communications.

He says later in the day, Krumm's mother discovered some medication was missing from her home, and she told police she suspected her son had taken it, but nothing was verified.
