The man who was charged in the death of football star Adrian Peterson's son last fall is facing new charges.

Minnehaha County State's Attorney Aaron McGowan says 28-year-old Joseph Robert Patterson was arrested early Wednesday after Sioux Falls Police responded to a "check well-being" call in the 4500 block of East 42nd Street.

Patterson is charged with first-degree kidnapping, two counts of aggravated assault, interference with emergency communications and injury to property.

McGowan says the criminal complaint filed against Patterson identifies the victim as Ashley Doohen. She was the mother of Tyrese Robert Ruffin, the two-year-old child who died last October from injuries suffered in a beating.
