The news began to emerge on Tuesday that Beyonce would serve as the halftime show for the upcoming Super Bowl in New Orleans.

A source close to Super Bowl XLVII told The Associate Press (via The New York Post) that Bey will indeed provide the halftime entertainment on Feb. 3 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. The insider was not authorized to publicly confirm the news. So it’s all a matter of speculation until the news is announced on Wednesday, Oct. 17.

So, we asked our Facebook fans what they thought about the announcement. And to say the reactions were predominantly negative is a bit of an understatement. In addition, our fans had some better alternatives to the 'Single Ladies' performer.

  • Lindy Swedeen: "Blah"
  • Michael Junker: "Well, this Superbowl has been ruined by Beyonce..."

Facebook fan Amanda Mensing  was happy to hear the announcement: "She would be a lot better than the entertainment in previous years!!"

And if anyone remembers last year's abysmal performance by The Black-Eyed Peas, or The Who, you might agree with Amanda.

Of course, our Facebook fans had their own ideas as to who should be performing.

  • Tim Helgeson: "Jimmy Buffett would be a blast! Fins up!"
  • Veronica Williams: "No way - I'm all for Rick Springfield!! smile."
  • Alex Ramos: "And I vote for Bon Jovi!"
  • Diane Brandt: "Goo Goo Dolls!! Hot Chelle Rae!!"
