When the engines roar this weekend, the crowd in Sioux Falls will try to keep pace at Monster Jam. Darren Migues who pilots Nitro Menace is amped for the shows.

The Denny Sanford PREMIER Center is the site for three performances on Friday (January 20) and Saturday and Migues will be bringing his rig. Migues is originally from the Kansas City area and he says the biggest thrill with Monster Trucks is going all the way to the edge and surviving.

“If you can pull off a pretty big save, that’s the highlight of the evening. At first you feel pretty cool. Sometimes I realize I don’t know how I did that, but it’s pretty cool that I did it.”

On the flip side (literally) is when Migues goes past that jagged edge and does some damage to the truck and the psyche.

“When you have the big crash, I wonder about if I had made the right move I could have saved that one. Everything happens so fast, some days you blink and you miss the opportunity and you crash. That’s what these trucks are designed to do. Run fast, jump high and crash hard.”

Migues says that he has been in Sioux Falls previously for a different event. However his opportunity to drive a Monster Truck has taken him around the world from Puerto Rico to Mexico City, deep into Canada plus Tel Aviv, Israel. Overall, though he says this mechanical team that helps get Nitro Menace ready is a family affair.

“My son is a crew guy and my nephew works on my team. I try to keep my team family oriented and those two boys are what keeps my truck going every weekend.”

Plus Migues said when the truck needs some attention, those parts aren’t found at the local auto parts store. Generally about a thousand different pieces are needed to build what you will see at the Denny Sanford Premier Center with one show on Friday at 7:00 PM and two on Saturday (January 21) at 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
