What was first believed to be a medical emergency for cardiac arrest, turned into police arresting a Sioux Falls man for murder.  The incident took place on Saturday February 20, 2015 approximately 11:30 AM according to authorities.

Fire, Ambulance, and Police Personnel were dispatched to 331 N. Cliff Ave. #2 for a cardiac arrest.  The initial information was that the victim was a 37 year old female.  When responders arrived on scene, they made contact with the female, and they found that she was deceased.  The investigation revealed that there was foul play surrounding her death.

Garrett Solorzano, a 33 year old Sioux Falls resident, was, subsequently, taken into custody.  Solorzano and the female victim were known to one another.  Solorzano was lodged at the Minnehaha County Jail for Murder 1st Degree.

On Saturday evening, police were still investigating and securing the scene.  Police tape was used to section off the entire lot and authorities continued to have conversations with individuals surrounding the investigation.

Residents who shared the back alley, who did not want to be identified, said that they had seen the couple coming and going but didn't find anything in their activity to be alarming.  One man who didn't want to be identified spoke of a grouping of those older Cliff Avenue apartments and problem tenants, including the residence where the murder took place.  He and his wife said drug issues have persisted with several of the tenants. The couple had been in contact with authorities over problems with parking issues, and as police investigated the parking complaints, the issue grew into discovering drugs and the US Marshal raiding one of the apartments in November of 2015.

Several residents who share the back alley were disappointed to hear the news, but said they do feel safe in their neighborhood.  The man charged with murder was known to the victim, which seems to bring a level of reassurance to the neighborhood that the murder was not a random killing.
