New Brown Bear Exhibit Planned at Great Plains Zoo
The Brown Bears at the Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls are getting new digs!
On Tuesday (April 11) the zoo broke ground on the expansion project planned for their Brown Bear Exhibit. The upgraded renovations will run in the neighborhood of 2.5 million.
KDLT News is reporting that once completed zoo-goers will get to see the bears in an up-close, much more naturalistic setting, that reflects the true habitat of the animals.
Elizabeth Whealy the President and CEO of the Great Plains Zoo told KDLT News, the new renovations will provide spectators "The chance to have up to 4 brown bears close, up close nose-to-nose with our visiting public, so guests can see how massive bears are and how they’re made, how their built, and of course all the interesting behaviors they have."
The new upgraded exhibit will also allow the public the opportunity to view training demonstrations, so visitors can see how zookeepers interact with the bears.
The Great Plains Zoo says this is the first renovation to the bear exhibit since the 1980's.
Look for more renovation announcements coming soon at the zoo. Including plans for a new Lion Exhibit in the future.
