The Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Department just opened their first permanent outdoor pickleball court complex at Riverdale Park, 2000 East 24 Street.

Pickleball began to increase in popularity in Sioux Falls in 2011. Since that time, the Sioux Falls Pickleball Club was established and has expanded to 160 members and 100 nonmembers. The club has used six temporary indoor courts at the community centers during the winter season and six temporary courts at Riverdale Park in the summer.

The courts are a result of a partnership between the City of Sioux Falls and the Sioux Falls Pickleball Club. The City of Sioux Falls installed regulation pickleball nets and applied a sports coat surfacing while the Sioux Falls Pickleball Club installed fencing to separate the courts and added concrete pathways and a kiosk to make the complex function better.
Don Kearney, Director of Parks and Recreation describes the progress into permanent courts:

It has been exciting to watch this sport grow and give people of all ages another recreational opportunity year-round. We hope these improvements will keep the momentum going and keep all age groups in Sioux Falls active.

Outdoor pickleball drop-in play is offered at Riverdale Park Monday through Saturday at 8:30 AM, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:00 PM and Sundays at 3:00 PM.

Indoor pickleball drop-in play is available for the summer season now through August 10 from 6:30 to 9:00 PM on Mondays and Wednesday at Morningside Community Center, which is located at 2400 South Bahnson Avenue.
