Ask any pet owner and they'll tell you, one of the worst days of their entire life, is the day their pet passes away.

Losing a pet for many pet owners can be just as difficult as losing a family member, because often times that's the way most pet owners view their animals, as members of the family.

If you're struggling with the loss of a pet, there is now an app called PetMatch that will help you find a lookalike pet to adopt.

Now if you ask me, this whole thing just seems wrong on a number of different levels. I personally had a dog of 15 years pass away recently. And as far as I'm concerned, there was and will be only one Marino. Okay, sure, there's some new app out there that will supposedly help me find the dogs doppelganger, but that animal will never come close to being the dog that I just lost. The whole idea seems a little creepy to me.

Here's how PetMatch works, you upload a photo of your deceased dog or cat, the app analyzes the photo, and searches through adoption databases in the area looking for pets that resemble the one you just lost. Once it finds a match, it sends you the details on where the animal is located.

What's next, a similar app for people? Imagine an app that will help you find a lookalike for your significant that just dumped you, or worse yet, a significant other or spouse that just died.

It kinda gives a whole new meaning to the word creepy if you ask me. But that's just me.

If you'd like to give PetMatch a try, it's free. And right now the app is only available for the iPhone.
