It has welcomed residents and visitors to Tea, South Dakota for many years, but the last standing grain elevator in the city limits of Tea was burned and demolished on Sunday, November 9th, 2014.

The burning and demolition of the elevator, located south of First Street and Carla Avenue, not only will give the much needed room for additional park and recreation facilities in the area, but also served as a training event for the Tea Volunteer Fire Department and other area fire departments.

Providing ladders for the controlled burn were fire departments from Sioux Falls, Lennox and Beresford.  Engines were brought in from Canton, Lennox, Worthing, Harrisburg and Split Rock.  Tankers were provided from Vermillion, Renner, Marion, Dells, Crooks, Worthing, SDANG and Salem.  The Minnehaha Rescue and the Minnehaha Command Post were on the site.  Along with the Tea Police Department, additional law enforcement was provided by Lincoln County and the SD Highway Patrol.  Around 120 firefighters were on hand to make everything happen.
