I could have told you this. As a matter of fact I would have gladly volunteered for this rat research. Connecticut College has determined that Oreos are as addictive as cocaine.

They took some lab rats and fed them some yummy Oreos. The results: Rats dig cookies. But more than that it found that eating cookies activated more neurons in the brain’s “pleasure center” than exposure to drugs, like cocaine or morphine.

Now keep in mind while the “Cookie Rats” were chowing down, on the other side of the maze the “Druggie Rats” were shooting-up cocaine and morphine. In essence what they have created is your “Suburban-Slacker-Cookie Rats” vs. your “Inner-City-Breaking Bad-Drug Rats”.

The research supported the theory that high-fat, high-sugar foods stimulate the brain in the same way that drugs do. Which may explain why some people can’t resist these foods despite the fact that they know they are bad for them.

The research showed that Oreos activated significantly more neurons than cocaine or morphine.  By all indication the rats were not allowed milk for dunking.

My conclusion is that we may soon have need for some socialized “Rat Rehab” centers. [Source-nbcconnecticut.com]
