The Oscars are Sunday night, February 24.  The awards are given for excellence of cinematic achievements.  Sure, we like to watch to see who wins Best Picture, but let's be honest, we really watch to see what the stars are going to wear. Over the years there have been some hits and there have been some big misses.  Our featured picture above is of Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of "South Park."  In 2000, Trey and Marc Shaiman received a Best Original Song nomination for "Blame Canada" from "South Park:  Bigger, Longer & Uncut."  They showed up in dresses that resembled something Jennifer Lopez and Gwyneth Paltrow once wore.

But, was that the biggest fashion mistake the Oscars have seen?  Remember when Bjork made history when she showed up at the 73rd Academy Awards in 2001 in a swan dress?    She was also nominated for Best Original Song.  What is with these people nominated for that award?  You've never seen Randy Newman show up at the Oscars dressed in something a pink tutu and cowboy boots or something.  He's been nominated for Best Original Song several times.

O.k., one more fashion faux pas before we show you the stunners.  Was anyone really shocked by Cher's choice of wardrobe at the Academy Awards in 1986?  She wore a piece designed by her usual designer, Bob Mackie.  I'm still not sure how she avoided a wardrobe malfunction.  She wasn't even nominated for an award that year, but she stole the show.

Now a look at some of the best fashion choices at the Academy Awards.  At last year's Academy Awards, Angelina Jolie decided to show us some leg.  I'd wear a dress like that, but I'd have to shave my legs, so I'll pass.

Halle Berry is always gorgeous, but looked exceptionally stunning at the 74th Academy Awards in 2002.  Cosmopolitan magazine cited the dress as one of the Best Oscar dresses of all time.

In 2001, Julia Roberts was one lucky woman.  She showed up to the Oscars on the arm of Benjamin Bratt and she took home the trophy for Best Actress for her role in "Erin Brockovich."  It was her third nomination and first win.

Seth MacFarlane will host the show for the first time.

Presenters include Jennifer Aniston, Michael Douglas, Jamie Foxx, Paul Rudd, Halle Berry, Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson and many others.

According to the Academy Awards producers, this year's show is going to be the most performance-filled Oscar show ever.  Adele is going to perform "Skyfall."  It will be part of the celebration of the James Bond franchise.  Renee Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Queen Latifah and Richard Gere will reunite on the stage where "Chicago" won its Oscar 10 years ago.  The producers are tight-lipped on if the reunited cast will sing.
