You would think orange juice would be a very simple thing to make. At least, I did.

Until I read an article and got an o.j. education! There apparently is something in-between the squeezing and packaging that I was completely unaware of.

I’m told, it is what is called; an ‘open secret’ in the orange juice business.

After the juice is wrung out of its’ little orange packages, it apparently is stored in giant holding tanks and the oxygen is removed. This allows your ‘fresh orange juice’ to be stored for a year without spoiling!

Removing the oxygen also removes the flavor.  What?!!

So the juice industry brings in the same companies who create perfume fragrances to concoct flavor and aroma for our orange juice out of orange oil and essence.

There you go. Just something to ponder with your next glass of o.j.!
