Patty’s Ponderings-Ballroom With A Twist, A Shout and A Whole Lotta Va-Va-Va-Voom!
This is what a great night out in our little town of Sioux Falls is made of; wonderful company, delicious meal, good wine, and extraordinary entertainment!
When my dear friend Alison asked her “Aunt Patty” to attend “Ballroom With A Twist”, my first thought truthfully was, “I’ll bet those tickets cost a flippin’ fortune!” Which they ultimately did, but Ali wasn’t going to allow me to reimburse her. Keep in mind she is a hard-working 22 year old, not independently wealthy and one of my adopted kids. So- – I bought her dinner at Minerva’s and gave her some gas money instead. You do what you can!
After two glasses of a smooth, Four Vines Zinfandel, a delightful trip through the enchanting salad bar and a tasty but surprisingly tough steak, Ali and I walked to the Pavilion full of anticipation.
The curtain rose on over two hours of entertainment excellence. “Dancing With The Stars” regulars Derek Hough, Cheryl Burke and Tristan Macmanus were joined by show newbie Emma Slater, as the headliners. Their co-stars included three “So You Think You Can Dance” finalists and the vocal fireworks of two American Idol finalists.
The backing chorus of dancers were all amazingly talented, which was important due to the fact that they were the ones doing the majority of the dancing. If I had one complaint, it would be that, Hough, Burke, Macmanus and Slater danced a fraction of the time compared to the work of their chorus line counterparts and I would imagine the stars were what drew people to this show.
That being said, the variety of music and dance styles, energetic talented group, appreciative audience, (I always enjoy a man with a nice chest and nimble hips) and aforementioned endearing company, (Ali), made for a wonderfully satisfying evening out.
