If you have ever worried that you are one paycheck away from homelessness, you are not alone! I was asked once; what was my greatest fear? My response was, “homelessness”. When I was a child, our family never owned a home. To this day, the only person in our family who does own a home is my sister in Montana.

The cost of living never goes down, paychecks rarely go up and most people get caught in the middle, or completely shut out when they lose a job. Couple that with substance abuse problems, lack of education, throw children into the mix and you have what may seem to some, a hopeless situation.

That is where Heartland House comes in! Heartland House is a transitional housing program for homeless families with children. It acts as a bridge from homelessness to self-sufficiency and provides resources to help achieve those goals.

Tomorrow night, Thursday, February 21st, at the Holiday Inn City Centre, in the beautiful Starlite Room, there is a “Give From the Heart to Heartland House” fundraiser.  You will have a delicious dinner, there will be a dessert auction and an inspirational program featuring The Sargent Shriver Achievement Award winner. This individual has changed her, and in turn, her children’s life, moving from homelessness to independence.

Social hour will start at 5:30 and the dinner and program will begin at 6:30. Tickets are still available by calling (605) 334-2808 ext. 354 or email events@interlakescap.com.

If you can’t make it to this special event but would like to help here is Heartland House’s Wish List.
