You would think at some point I would tire of vacationing with my family. So far that has not happened, because if variety is the spice of life, I find I have a penchant for spicy, oddly shaped meatballs.

On the first day of our stay here in Long Beach, Washington, most of us arrived early. My sister Carmela, brother-in-law Jon and nephew Anthony (Bubbi), were the exceptions. They almost always are. Somehow they never seem to get moving early or fast and so they are usually last on the scene of any event; including this celebration of their 25th anniversary!

The rest of us, (my sister Carolyn, best friend Georgie and me) had already been down to the shore and were watching the late arrivals wend their way up and over the dunes. My sister Carmie was struggling a bit due to her arthritis and fibromyalgia.

From our vantage point, the deck window of the condo, it appeared that Bubbi was trying to assist his mom. I made the comment, “I know he always says his parents drive him crazy, but look at him helping his Mom, ahh.” It was right at this moment, that Carmela took the walking sticks she was using to help her climb the dune and whacked her son with them!

We exploded in laughter! Later we discovered that Bubbi, indeed, was not nudging his mom to help her, but was actually trying to shove her in the sand for the sake of a good chuckle. Which was had by all!

Yup, still not tired of them!
