If Halloween wasn't spooky enough already, according to Triple-A, Halloween is the deadliest night of the year for pedestrians in the U.S.

It makes sense when you stop and think about it, all the little ghosts and goblins out there wandering around, more concerned about candy than watching for cars.

Anyone that plans on trick-or treating that night needs to be extra special careful when you're out, watch out for cars before running across the street. And drivers, make sure you keep an eye out for all those kiddos! Often times they might be wearing a costume that obstructs their view, or doesn't have any reflective material on it.

Here are a few Halloween safety tips for both trick-or-treaters and motorists.

For the trick-or-treaters:

  • Trick-or-treat together and if possible with a parent or a group of parents.

  • Parents check your kid’s costumes for obstructive vision, non-toxic face paint and make sure they're wearing something reflective.

  • Review a trick-or-treat plan with your kids before letting them go out.

For the motorists on the road that night:

  • Avoid cutting through residential streets where children are likely to be.

  • Watch for children in the street. Chances are trick-or-treaters are not going to be watching for you.

  • Slow down. If you're going 30 miles an hour, you're twice as likely to kill a person you hit than if you're driving 25 miles an hour.

  • Buckle up. Always use appropriate seat belts and car seats.

  • Drive sober. Enough said!

Have a safe and happy Halloween everyone!
