People Gather for Vigil Honoring Sioux Falls Murder Victim

Dozens of people gathered Tuesday evening for a vigil to remember the first homicide victim in Sioux Falls in 2015.

Eighteen-year-old Anthony Gabriel was killed during a fight with two other teens. Gabriel was shot in the head while driving on Louise Avenue on January 29. He died three days later.

A 17-year-old and a 19-year-old are facing murder charges. Robert Montes and Connor Hanson are charged with murdering Gabriel near the Empire Mall Thursday, January 29, 2015. Montes and Hanson are both facing murder and manslaughter charges.

• Murder Suspects Make First Court Appearance

Friends, family and community members gathered in the Empire Mall parking lot at 5:15 PM Tuesday for a "Take Back the Site" vigil.

The goal of these gatherings is to reclaim a place where violence took place and to call for peace.
