Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead yesterday (Feb. 2) of an apparent drug overdose, since heroin was found in his NYC apartment and he was discovered clothed with a needle in his arm.

He was in the middle of filming the final two films in ‘The Hunger Games’ franchise, which left fans of the novel and films wondering what’s next and if the actor’s tragic death would affect the film and its release.

PSH starred as Plutarch Heavensbee in ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.’ His character is of critical importance in the final book ‘Mockingjay,’ which was split into two films, one which is out this year and the other in November of 2015.

A source said that the actor’s work on the first film was “substantially” complete and he had just seven days of work to do for the second film. How the producers will address those last few days of filming remains to be seen. His death will not affect the release date of either film but there may need to be some creative editing and writing done around the last bit of material he did not complete.

Lionsgate released a statement on his passing:

Philip Seymour Hoffman was a singular talent and one of the most gifted actors of our generation. We’re very fortunate that he graced our Hunger Games family. Losing him in his prime is a tragedy and we send our deepest condolences to Philip’s family.

Jennifer Lawrence, along with director Francis Lawrence and writer Suzanne Collins, issued a statement on behalf of cast and crew.

Words cannot convey the devastating loss we are all feeling right now. Philip was a wonderful person and an exceptional talent, and our hearts are breaking. Our deepest thoughts and condolences go out to his family.
