Images From Sunday’s Devastating Tornadoes Across the Midwest
On Sunday more than 80 tornadoes tore through the Midwest, killing at least six people in Illinois, injuring dozens more, leveling homes and businesses, and leaving a swath of destruction from Missouri through Michigan.
The storms caused millions of dollars in damage and knocked out power for thousands of people. The hardest-hit area may have been Washington, Illinois, which is east of Peoria. Winds up to 190 mph, making it a level EF-4 tornado, battered the town, killed at least one resident and ruined possibly 500 houses.
"The devastation is just unbelievable," said Washington's mayor, Gary Manier. "I can't imagine people walked away from these places."
