I think we can all pretty much agree that Sioux Falls is no longer a city that you can feel completely safe leaving your doors unlocked while you're away from home or even home alone.

Our city is growing at a pretty good pace and with that kind of growth, you can also expect a certain degree of increased crime to come along with it.

That was illustrated again on Tuesday afternoon when a Sioux Falls woman says she was attacked inside her own home.

Police were called to the home of a woman near 18th Street and South Bahnson Avenue just before 5 o'clock. The 23-year-old woman was alone at the time of the attack. She was going upstairs but heard a noise behind her. She told police a man came in her front door and ran at her. The man was groping her and attempted to pull her clothes off.

She was able to get away from the assailant and ran outside down the street, but he followed her and tackled her outside. Fortunately a couple of witnesses were able to pull the man off of her and she was able to drive away from the scene in her car.

The woman told police that she thinks she recognizes the man, but doesn't know his name.

The suspect is described as a short, heavier set white man, wearing a red t-shirt and tan pants at the time of the attack. The woman reported that her assailant drove away in a grey pickup.

Sioux Falls police want to remind residents to make sure your doors are always locked at night and when you're away from home. That is probably the best defense a person can  have according Officer Sam Clemens of the Sioux Falls police department.
