As the police investigation continues into an early Wednesday morning fatal crash on Western Avenue in Sioux Falls, Police Lt. John Duprey says drugs may have been a factor.

"I don't believe that alcohol was involved. I've heard no mention of alcohol. I have been advised that drugs appear to have possibly been a factor. They didn't clarify to me what kind."

Duprey says it's rare that severe accidents would take place on Western Avenue.

"In the bigger picture of things, looking at the number of accident reports that the Sioux Falls Police Department takes over the course of a year, if you're looking at it in regards to fatalities these accidents are fairly rare."

Duprey says a juvenile male died in the crash. The driver and another passenger were not seriously hurt.

The vehicle crashed into a tree.
