Sioux Falls Police uncovered more details from the robbery at the Nickel Spot Casino on Minnesota Avenue early Sunday morning. The woman who tried to stop the crime is pregnant.

Officer Sam Clemens says there was a promotion at the establishment where the winner would receive the contents of a cash box. Things went south when the wrong man got a hold of the prize.

“She saw him leave with the cash box so she ran after him. He jumped into his Explorer and started to drive and she jumped onto the running boards.” Clemens says her initial fear was that she was going to get dragged underneath the vehicle if she had not climbed aboard. “The car hit a few different things inside the lot and then crashed into the pole and she fell to the ground.”

The 30 year-old woman ended up with a broken arm and broken leg. Fortunately no harm was done to the unborn child.

Once the assailant got out of his own vehicle he fled the scene and called for a friend to pick him up. The two met up near 32nd and Grange before police eventually tracked them both down.

23 year old Austin Jaymes Edward Johnson from Sioux Falls is charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault, Vehicular Battery, Felony Hit and Run, and Petty Theft. 22 year-old Christopher Rave of Sioux Falls is charged with his third DWI, Petty Theft, Driving with a Suspended License, No Insurance and Open Container.
