Prince’s Final Resting Place Revealed

After Prince passed away from an accidental fentanyl overdose on April 21, 2016, his sister Tyka Nelson said he would be cremated. At that time, the public didn't know what was going to be done with the late singer's ashes.

When Paisley Park opened for tours October 6, 2016, visitors were surprised to learn that Prince's final resting place is Paisley Park. His cremated remains reside in the atrium in an urn that resembles a miniature Paisley Park.

Foreverence, an Eden-Prairie based company that specializes in custom burial urns made the unique urn. The company released a press release describing the urn.

Made of ceramic and glass and measuring 19” x 18” x 14,” the urn features several distinctive elements that reflect the artist’s personality. Tyka Nelson hand‐selected seven iridescent crystals – representing the artist’s favorite number – to be part of the urn design and placed the final jewel in the piece herself. The urn opens up to reveal lighting and scale‐model details from Paisley Park, including the main atrium, Prince’s famous purple Yamaha piano and white ornamental doves.

There are no pictures of the urn because photographs are not allowed on the tour. The urn was originally unveiled at a private memorial service in August.
