‘Prometheus 2′ Finally Has a Screenwriter

Prometheus
20th Century Fox

Sometimes when a film is released, the people involved will talk up a sequel regardless if one will actually happen. Ridley Scott‘s ‘Prometheus‘ set up a sequel, and both Scott and star Noomi Rapace suggested that ‘Prometheus 2‘ would happen, but little came of it. Until today, as a writer has just been hired to pen the sequel.

The Wrap is reporting that Jack Paglen has been hired to write ‘Prometheus 2.’ Paglen also wrote the script for Wally Pfister‘s directorial debut ‘Transcendence,’ which will hit screens next year. As he doesn’t have any other credited work, it’s hard to know what to make of this hire, though he obviously has a talent for science fiction. We do know that Damon Lindelof — who took a lot of heated criticisms for his rewrite of ‘Prometheus’ — will not be involved.

‘Prometheus’ — the sort of prequel to Ridley Scott’s 1979 film ‘Alien’ — was one of the most anticipated films of 2012′s summer, but now is mostly viewed as an artistic failure. Money-wise, the domestic box office was moderately successful (it made $126 million), but the film did much better internationally as it made over $400 million worldwide, so a sequel does make sense. The world of ‘Prometheus’ was fascinating, and with a stronger script we’d be interested in a sequel, so this is good news… if the script is good.
