Volunteers with the American Red Cross are standing by in a shelter opened at 808. N. West Ave in Sioux Falls as severe weather with heavy rain, severe thunder and lightning has impacted the greater Sioux Falls area.

The Red Cross has received calls from residents in need, including structure fires. At this time, we have provided assistance with food and lodging to one person impacted by a fire on South Cinnamon Circle. We are working to determine needs from the other responses.

We will not be deploying volunteers out in the field until the conditions have been deemed safe by Sioux Falls Emergency Management, but are taking calls for assistance.

People can also download the Red Cross Emergency App to get access to life-saving information. This “all-inclusive” app combines more than 35 different severe weather and emergency alerts from natural to man-made, giving you real-time information to help keep you and your loved ones safe.
