Rock Academy Open House a Success
Friday (March 29), the Brennan Rock & Roll Academy held a free open house to the public to stop in, see what the facility is all about, hear some talented regional musicians play, and get their kids signed up for the Boys & Girls Clubs.
My phone started ringing and buzzing with texts mid-afternoon from parents who had gone in with their kids. They’re amazed at the state-of-the-art facility that is a) here in Sioux Falls and b) made for their kids while c) wishing we would have had something like this when WE were kids! The parents I talked to were also amazed to find out that the fee to sign their kids up for Boys & Girls Clubs ($25 per year) had been picked up all day by Chuck Brennan (founder of the Academy) and the Dollar Loan Center! And for those of you who have asked, the Club is NOT just for under-privileged families. Mary Brennan told me earlier this week that there is no minimum OR maximum income guidelines. This facility is for KIDS in Sioux Falls.
Starting late Friday afternoon, parents and music fans alike were treated to music from Oryx, the Neo Johnsons, Ramrod Hamster, Rock n Roll Damnation and ZZ3, plus free pizza and beverages, supplied by the Academy.
I talked to a lot of people through the evening that continue to be impressed by the facility, the use of space, the technology being afforded to the kids, and the incredible week of fundraising shows that have been put on this week and wrap up tonight (Saturday March 30) with Vince Neil of Motley Crue and Stephen Pearcy of Ratt joining midwest rockers Hairball.
I talked to Brennan briefly about the shows that have happened this week since a three camera video shoot has been going on and highlights being shown on the Daktronics boards installed in the facility. He told me that last Tuesday’s Night Ranger concert will likely be shown on Palladia network and VH1 within the next 30 days. There is also talk of putting together a DVD of the week’s shows and selling them to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs. We’ll pass along all that information as it becomes available.
If you missed the open house, don’t worry, you can still sign your kids and grandkids up for the Boys & Girls Clubs so they can begin taking music lessons and learning the gospel of Hendrix, Zeppelin, AC/DC, ZZ Top and more, soon.
